Assessment OptionsLearning Disability Testing Office Policies (opens in another window) Learning Disability TestingThe learning disability evaluation consists of an overall intelligence battery, such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-III or the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-III, plus achievement tests which delineate the underlying cognitive problems, such as the Woodcock-Johnson Battery-III. The $1200 fee is based on 8 hours of testing and a 30 minute interview; it includes a brief 2 to 3 page written report, with all scores attached. Evaluations for accommodations usually require a more elaborate report and cost $1700 if the testing is done by a graduate student. This latter version has included in the report a medical, educational and developmental history, which is to be provided by the patient or parent, and is described on the Extended Time Evaluation Requirements page. Testing usually takes about 8 hours, but can be longer in some cases. If a person is late, or tests slowly, extra time is billed at $100 per hour if the testing is done by the graduate student. Report writing is an additional 6-7 hours. If the testing is done by Dr. Thomas and Senior staff, the fee is $225 per hour. The length of time is still the same, about 15 hours of professional time, of which 8 hours is actual testing time. If there needs to be an assessment of nonverbal or a mathematics learning disability, another 2 hours should be added to the above assessments. The fee would increase according to the above rates. These rates may change at any time without notice. Attention Deficit Disorder EvaluationsThe diagnosis of Attention Deficit Disorder, strictly speaking, is made by endorsing a certain number of specific symptoms, and is not based on testing per se. However, the diagnosis also states that the symptoms must not be due to some other disorder, such as a neurological problem, significant psychopathology or a medical problem. Therefore these other disorders must be screened in any assessment. Additionally, since learning disabilities are commonly found in ADD people, this should be assessed as well. The Brief ADD Evaluation Full Attention Deficit Disorder Evaluation A Quantitative Electroencephalogram, or QEEG, is recommended for those who are planning to do EEG Biofeedback. This assessment measures the brain waves at 19 sites and the relationships of all pairs of sites in several parameters, such as coherence, phase, and asymmetry. It is also recommended for those who want to know precisely how their brain functions, as well as for more precise medication recommendations. By comparing the brain wave information with others in the same normative group, one can discover how a given person's brain waves differ from the normal population. This has direct implications for EEG Biofeedback, and brain waves which are excessive or too low can be included in the EEG Biofeedback treatment design, so that the abnormal brain waves can be corrected. A QEEG Evaluation costs $800, and takes two hours of testing time. It is done the second and third Saturdays of the month except for holidays. |
